From $8B IPO to Your Next Big Investment

What happens when the executive who helped build an $8 billion brand decides to do it again?

Meet Paul Crandell, the former Chief Marketing Officer at GoPro, where he led brand strategy, customer acquisition, and product positioning through one of the most successful hardware IPOs in history. Paul also served on the founding team at Red Bull North America, helping establish one of the world's most iconic lifestyle brands.

Paul's leadership earned him Ad Week's Grand Brand Genius Award and the Marketers That Matter Tech Award-recognition reserved for those who don't just market products, but build movements.

After years of scaling consumer electronics and building brands people obsess over, Paul saw a massive gap in the market: no one was making portable projectors that actually worked seamlessly.

Chinese brands flooded the market with cheap, clunky devices. Legacy companies made expensive, complicated systems. But nobody was making a projector that was simple, smart, and designed for how people actually live today.

That's why Paul partnered with Kody Amburgey-a former investment banker and VC investor who became a venture-backed founder, raising $15M+ in VC funding and leading a 30+ person team by age 25-to found Lumi Labsin 2024.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can invest?
Anyone! Lumi's campaign is open to both accredited and non-accredited investors. The minimum investment is just $100, making it accessible to everyday investors who want to own a piece of the future of entertainment.
What am I actually buying?
You're investing via a SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity). This means you're not buying stock today-you're buying the right to future equity at a discounted price when Lumi raises its next funding round or experiences a liquidity event (acquisition, IPO, etc.). Early Bird investors get a $12M valuation cap with a 20% discount. Standard investors get a $16M valuation cap with a 20% discount.
When will I see returns?
This is an early-stage investment, so liquidity typically happens in 3-7 years through: Strategic acquisition (most likely path-e.g., acquired by a larger consumer electronics brand) Series A or growth equity round (your SAFE converts, and you may have secondary liquidity options) IPO (long-term scenario, but possible given founder's track record) Important: There's no guarantee of returns, and you should be comfortable holding this investment for several years.
What makes Lumi different from other projector companies?
Leadership: Our CEO took GoPro from startup to $8B+ IPO. He knows how to scale hardware brands and create real exits. Strategic Positioning: We're the first US-based projector brand with native Google TV integration, giving us distribution advantages and brand trust Chinese competitors can't match. Defensible IP: We're not just selling hardware-we're building proprietary software (Lumi IQ, Lumi Verse) that creates recurring revenue and competitive moats.
How risky is this investment?
All early-stage investments carry significant risk. You could lose your entire investment. Specific risks include: Lumi may not reach profitability as projected Competitors could outpace us in technology or market share Supply chain disruptions (tariffs, inventory issues) could impact margins We may not secure a future funding round or exit However, we believe we've de-risked significantly by: Generating $1M+ in revenue in Year 1 (post-revenue validation) Securing major partnerships (Google, Barnes & Noble, sports franchises) Attracting $900K+ from top executives (former Tesla CEO, GoPro executives) Operating near breakeven with a clear path to profitability Always invest only what you can afford to lose. Please review full risk factors on our Wefunder campaign page.
Are there any tax benefits?
Some investors may qualify for tax benefits under Section 1202 (Qualified Small Business Stock), which allows for capital gains exclusion on early-stage investments held for 5+ years. We recommend consulting with a tax professional to understand how this investment fits into your personal tax situation.
